Stress: Information

  • What is Stress?
    • There is no fix definition for stress till date, because it varies from person to person. It can be understood as, when one face situation/work/feeling something more than one used to face/feel, one get stressed. It can be normal and resolved itself with our coping mechanism. But many times it remains prolonged and persistent then this chronic stress affects mind and body negatively.

  • How does stress affects us?
    • When we are exposed to any stress/threat, our body response by stimulating sympathetic system. Thereby it releases certain hormones e.g. adrenaline (hence called stress hormones), make blood pressure and heart rate rise, body temperature increase, blood sugar increase, blood flow shuns from gut, clotting occurs more quickly etc. This is our body’s response for tackling a stress for short term, which remains for short time and then becomes normal. It happens with short term stress like facing an interview, running a race etc.

But when any stress is long term called chronic stress due to a situation that last too long, for examples problems at work, relationship conflicts, family problem, major health issue, financial problems etc. That will affect our body and mind in a very harmful way, and lead to a serious health problems.

  • Doses stress causes any disease?
    • Well, there is no direct evidence like stress produces particular disease, as stress is so subjective to each person with their own style to deal with.

But uncompensated long term stress may cause many health issues. Many researches explain that modern day diseases such as Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Anxiety, Depression, Coronary Heart Diseases, Migraines, Fatigue/tiredness, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Early Ageing, Hair fall, Digestion problems, Low Immunity etc are found more in people who had chronic stress than who were less stressed.

  • How to reduce Stress?
    • Relax you mind with positive activity such as good reading, meditation, music, light exercises, writing, creative activity etc.

Relax your body with relaxing exercises like muscle relaxation, yoga, enough rest and sleep etc.
